Form Lighting Tacoma Headlight & Taillight Guide

Form Lighting Tacoma Headlight & Taillight Guide - Tacomavibes

Upgrading your Toyota Tacoma headlights and taillights with Form Lighting is a massive improvement over the OEM options. With that in mind, we want to make sure we cover all aspects of these products with as much detail, honesty, and transparency as possible.

I personally rock these products on my Tacoma and I LOVE them. I genuinely have good experiences with them, but I’ve owned my Form Lighting Tacoma Headlights for almost 2 years now and the Form Lighting Tacoma Tail Lights for roughly 6 months. There are certainly some pros and cons to these products as there are with all products. This piece is dedicated to the nitty gritty, because these parts are a little pricey and depending on each person's subjective goals they may or may not be worth the investment. Let’s dive in.

2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road Stock Headlights

I’ll be honest with you, I was supremely disappointed in the stock headlights for the 2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad. The DRL was incomplete, and the stock light bulbs totally sucked. Even when I upgraded to H11 lightbulbs I still wasn’t fully satisfied with the look. While the upgraded lightbulbs made a huge difference, the look of my Tacoma just wasn’t where I wanted it to be. I knew with the right set of headlights I could really take the look of my Tacoma to the next level. Enter the Form Lighting Tacoma Headlights.

Tacoma Form Lighting Headlights

I caught wind of Form Lighting through a random Instagram post and was immediately intrigued by the look. The Form Lighting Headlights for the Toyota Tacoma offer Sequential LED’s that feature triple bi-LED projectors, sequential turn signals, a startup sequence, bright white LED running lights, and a sleek, modern appearance that drastically enhance your Tacoma’s aesthetic. They also look “blacked out” when they’re off and have less chrome than stock. Something I was chasing with my build since I have a strong aversion to chrome.

These Form Lighting Tacoma Headlights provide superior output and visibility with their sharp cutoff, broad width, and high intensity.

Form Lighting Tacoma Headlights: Pros and Cons

Let’s kick things off with some positivity because these headlights are pretty awesome. The design is so crisp, the light output is a massive upgrade, sequential turn signals look incredible (especially if you have sequential mirrors too), and the start up sequence turns heads every time. In all honesty, they’re a conversation piece when it comes to Tacoma enthusiasts I meet on Trails! Overall, they’ve been reliable and have worked every time I needed them too.

Now, I’ll say it again… I think the Form Lighting Tacoma headlights are great but I’ve seen and heard of some minor glitches here and there.

First and foremost, sometimes the DRL for the Form headlights on my Tacoma will turn on without my engine or AUX power being on. My neighbors alerted me to the problem the following morning. As someone who camps in as remote spots as possible, waking up to a dead battery because of this could be a massive downfall.

While I haven’t personally experienced it, it is worth mentioning that some owners have experienced issues with getting the proper lighting to work. In some instances the sequential would be operating as if it were the DRL.

Another instance I ran into was during a period of heavy use. I was hitting the track at New England Overland Rally at Thompson Motor Speedway in Thompson Connecticut and noticed my headlights were “winking” at me.

It ended up being pretty cool but an amber sequential light was on one headlight and the DRL was on the other. This was caused due to overheating, and it’s something Form mentions on their product page… but let's be honest, who really thinks about their Tacoma’s headlights overheating when you’re playing in the mud?!

With that said, Form Lighting offers a 2 year warranty and their customer service is great. They seem to really stand by their product and genuinely care about improving for the community.

Ultimately, I think the Form Lighting Tacoma headlights are a solid purchase! If I were specifically building a Tacoma to just get outside and hit the trails as soon as possible I wouldn’t recommend purchasing these right out of the gate.

Personally, I try to build with practicality first in mind but I’m also a sucker for aesthetic features. At the end of the day, it all comes down to build style and preference.

2019 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road Stock Tail Lights

The stock tail lights for the 2019 Toyota Tacoma were not too bad. They weren’t the brightest and chrome was jarring to me. That said, I didn’t mind them but I wasn’t necessarily a fan. Upgrading to the Form Lighting Tacoma Tail Lights was a back burner modification for me but I’m glad to have deleted the last piece of chrome AND keep with the red tail light color. The Form Lighting Tacoma Tail Lights can be smoked or red, but I wanted to keep some coloration with an all black Tacoma.

Tacoma Form Lighting Tail Lights

For the booty upgrade your Tacoma deserves, Form Lighting offers Sequential LED Tail Lights that are a full LED upgrade compared to the factory incandescent bulbs. These Form Lighting Tacoma tail lights feature a modern design with a unique startup sequence and a sequential LED turn signal. With OEM-grade construction and a plug-and-play installation, Form Lighting's Tacoma tail lights are a reliable and stylish choice for your Toyota Tacoma. When they say plug and play - they mean it.

Form Lighting Tacoma Headlights: Pros and Cons

To kick things off on a positive note, I love the look for the Tacoma Form Lighting Tail Lights. The sequential turn signals, the startup sequence, the cherry red, and an install that took less than 5 minutes! The difference in quality, look, light output and sheer design in comparison to the stock tail lights is an otherworldly difference.

Now, I haven’t had the red Form Lighting Tail lights for the Tacoma for too long but I have heard echoes that the startup sequence for the newer red iteration has some issues. You can actually see a lot of these comments on the Form Lighting Tacoma Tail Light Install Video on YouTube. Important to mention again - Form Lighting responds to all these customers and does their best to guide them to their customer service team to try and resolve the problem.

All things considered, and speaking only to my personal experience, the Tacoma Form Lighting Tail Lights are awesome. As previously mentioned, the difference is otherworldly compared to stock. With that said, if we’re building strictly for practicality and hitting the trails, this would be a mod (and was) that I would put off. For example, I opted for a bed cover before upgrading my Tacoma’s tail lights.

Form Lighting Tacoma Headlight & Taillight Conclusion

Overall Form Lighting does a great job creating high quality lighting for the Tacoma enthusiast. Form recently released a new version of the Form Lighting Tacoma headlight that now offers an amber DRL for the amber enthusiast.

As mentioned, some customers of Form (including myself) have experienced minor complications with their products but every case appears to have been handled well by their warranty and customer service teams.

All in all, the Form Lighting Tacoma Headlight and Tail light are great products that enhance not only the light output from your Tacoma but the overall aesthetic of it as well. Between the ease of installation, customer service, quality product, and attention to detail - these products are an absolute no brainer if your focus is to make your truck turn heads.
